Assessment

Assessments at Royal British International School Yangon

Why Assessments?

At the Royal British International School Yangon, assessments are a cornerstone of delivering a high-quality education where academic excellence intersects with the creative and performing arts. Assessment enables teachers, students, and the school to evaluate, recognise, and celebrate student achievements while identifying areas for growth. Through this process, we ensure that every student is supported on their unique journey towards excellence.

Effective assessment practices allow us to adapt the curriculum to the needs, capabilities, and aspirations of our students. This aligns with the objectives outlined in our “Educating Future Generations” framework, ensuring progress in the short, medium, and long term. Students are assessed continuously throughout the academic year, both formally and informally. Teachers provide constructive feedback on all student work, highlighting strengths and offering clear guidance for improvement.

Types of Assessments at Royal British International School Yangon

End of Unit Assessments Students complete summative assessments at the end of each unit of learning across all subjects. These assessments are designed to evaluate whether students have successfully met the learning objectives of the unit.

End of Term Tests From Year 1 onwards, students undertake unaided school-designed assessments at the end of every term to measure their progress and understanding across all subjects.

End of Year Tests

  • Students in Years 1 to 10 sit for school-devised assessments in various subjects.
  • Standardised assessments in English, Mathematics, and Science are also conducted to benchmark student performance.

Reading Assessments To support literacy and language development, diagnostic reading assessments are utilised to determine English attainment levels. These include:

  • Reading Recovery Levels
  • Book Bands and Reading Targets for Guided Reading

Reporting Schedule

Reporting to Parents and Students We ensure that communication between the school, students, and parents is transparent and consistent. There are five reporting periods each academic year:

  • Interim Report 1
  • End of Term 1 Report
  • Interim Report 2
  • End of Year Report

Teachers engage students individually to discuss assessment results and progress. Parents are kept informed through detailed school reports and formal Parent-Teacher meetings. End-of-term reports provide a comprehensive overview of each student’s attainment across all subjects.
